File is a collection of data that is stored together.

Filename Parts

Filename "." (Period) Type
name given separates name from the type always written in abbreviations, usually in 3 letters
eg. Document.doc, Excel.xls, PowerPoint.pps, Adobe.pdf

File Measurement's length tells you how much storage space that file is using within the computer.

Bits 0/1
Bytes 8 bits
Kilobytes (KB) 1,000 bytes
Megabytes (MB) 1,000,000 bytes
Gigabytes (GB) 1,000,000,000 bytes

Folders keep files organized by grouping them together.

File Address tells you what drive and folders to look in for a file.
